George Becnel has been in the food industry for some 37 years, starting off with a family restaurant in Destrehan just out of college called Becnel and Sons Road Side Market.  The market was a produce stand, seafood, and lunch restaurant that was run by his entire family.  This venture developed into a catering service known as Becnel’s Food Service.  BFS primarily catered formal events and lunches.  Becnel brought on board his childhood friend, James Tromatore, and the business took off. 


As the years passed, a need was obvious.  Becnel's Food Service could cater a business holiday party but was not able to cater the company picnic.  BFS purchased Cajun a La Carte Catering, merged it into its operations and became known as "The Ultimate Catering Connection".  Becnel soon realized that CALC had a star within its ranks. Doug Howland became the man for all occasions.  They became genuine friends and business partners. 


Over the past 37 years, Becnel has served as the Executive Chef of the New Orleans Zephyrs, traveled to Minnesota with the Three Amigos (Becnel, Tromatore, and Howland) and a Cajun Krewe to put on Cajun Festivals at casinos, making lifelong friends along the way.  Becnel also served as Food and Beverage Director of the St. Rose Travel Center and Cypress Lakes Country Club.  Throughout all of these experiences, Becnel's daughter, Faith, was becoming a rising star in the world of live music.  With his hands full, Becnel decided to sell the catering company to Howland who moved it to Baker, Louisiana. 


It was at Cypress Lakes Country Club that Becnel brought on his son, Holden Becnel, as line cook.  He realized his son's calmness and "beast mode" mentality in the kitchen...the young Becnel was his own rising star.  From line cook, to expo, to kitchen manager, Holden was constantly growing and excelling.  The young Becnel now serves as Food and Beverage director here Bec's at the Lake Restaurant and Catering


A lifetime of experience in food and catering has grown into Bec’s at the Lake Restaurant and Catering,  The stars lined up when George Becnel and Denise Duhe' Pritchard, Louisiana born and bred life-long friends, joined forces to open a venue dedicated to food and fun.


We dedicate this endeavor to a few of our key puzzle pieces..... Becnel's dad, Ellery (Coon) Becnel, his life-long friend, James (Big Nose) Tromatore and Tim Pritchard, Sr., are our angels now.  We know they walk with us and watch over every plate being served.  George Becnel’s vision of a fun, "friends bring friends and strangers become friends" venue is here.  Hope to see you and your smile at the Lake soon!
